Article 4 – God the Son:
English:
[suffered] under Pontius Pilate, was crucified [dead], and buried; [He descended into Hell (Hades, spirit-world)];
Latin:
passus sub Pontio Pilato, crucifixus, mortuus, et sepultus; descendit ad inferna;
Greek:
παθόντα ἐπὶ Ποντίου Πιλάτου, σταυρωθέντα, θανόντα, καὶ ταφέντα, κατελθόντα εἰς τὰ κατώτατα,
(pathonta epi Pontiou Pilatou, staurōthenta, thanonta, kai taphenta, katelthonta eis ta katōtata,)
As I mentioned before, I’m learning and memorizing the basic creeds of the Christian faith, beginning with The Apostles’ Creed. As I also mentioned, it’s slow going, as I have had much to do with school; and now that it’s summer, with work, but I’m working at it a little at a time.
This article, as the previous two, deals with Christ. In fact, the majority of the Apostles’ Creed deals with Jesus Christ, God the Son, the second Person of the Trinity: six of the twelve articles are related to His person and work. This is fitting, as Christ shows us God most revealed in His person and recorded in Scripture.
I am enjoying learning, memorizing and meditating on these articles and the verses that accompany and support them. I hope you are doing the same!
